Information reaching The Chronicle indicates that the government has intensified its search for alternative plastic materials to save the country from the debilitating effects on the environment. The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST), The Chronicle learnt, has been tasked with the onerous responsibility of finding an alternative biodegradable (easily decomposable) material. The government says it is considering banning plastic materials in the country and revert to the use of paper materials which are more ecologically friendly.
‘An information paper I chanced upon indicates that the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST) is seeking to ban black polythene bags in the country, so that when you shop, it will be paper bag that would be used to serve you. (more…)
