THE ASPIRING PARLIAMENTARY candidate for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Adwoa Safo has said the only person that can inspire hope for the future and rescue Ghanaians from economic hardship is the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“Nana Addo is the hope for Ghana. He is the one taking us to the promise land. The hardship that we are going through as a result of the bad leadership style of President Mills will be a thing of the past when Nana Addo is elected president for this country. Today, when you sell, people don’t buy, and the only reason is that there is no money to spend.”
“Even they (referring to the National Democratic Congress) want to evict us from the places that we all get our daily bread. Do we want this to continue? Never again will this happen to Ghana when Nana Addo is elected President of Ghana,” she charged to the cheering of the teeming party faithful.
Kufuor’s gains now in tatters
At the Mantse Agbona Park to unveil the youth wing of the NPP, who will spearhead the campaign of the party for the 2012 general election, Safo said all the gains made by ex-President Kufuor during his eight years reign are now in tatters, citing the School Feeding Program and some major road networks in the country to buttress her argument.
‘Two and half years into office, look at what the NDC has done to the School Feeding Program, look at our road networks – the Achimota Ofankor road which ex-President Kufuor cut the sod for its commencement is in shambles, the Nsawam-Suhum road among many others. We are sending a message to Prof. Mills that those road networks need immediate attention,’ she said to the cheering of the teeming supporters.
Ten-year development plan
Dressed in NPP party colours of red, blue and white, Adwoa Safo said the hopes of Ghanaians would be restored when Nana Addo is elected as President, since he has a ten-year development plan that will yield massive economic benefit to this country.
‘Nana Addo is not going to make promises that he couldn’t fulfill, but will only bring in good social intervention programs and policies that will benefit the entire country. He has a ten-year economic plan that will move this country forward,’ said Lawyer Safo.
Charged by the cheering of the party faithful, Lawyer Safo said the internal wrangling in the NDC is a clear ‘testimony that God has given victory to the NDPP already.’
She therefore urged the youth in the party to put their exuberant energy into good use by going all out to campaign vigorously for the NPP in order to win back power from the NDC.
‘The future of Ghana is with the NPP. Victory for the NPP rests on the shoulders of the youth. We have to give our best for the party. We have to go from door-to-door and spread the good news about the NPP to the electorates,’ she noted.
‘NDC playing FONKAR GAME’
Also speaking at the event was Mr. Atta Akyea, Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa. He told the gathering that the time given the NDC to govern this country has elapsed.
According to him, the NDC has lost focus in managing the country and have now resorted in ‘playing GAME and FONKAR.’
‘The time that we gave to the NDC to mend the patches together has elapsed. For them to be thinking about Ghana, they are rather fighting each other. The mandate that we gave President Atta Mills to provide us with potable drinking water, good education system is now in shambles. The NDC is rather playing FONKAR GAMES,’ he said to the cheering crowd.
According to him, what the NDC know best is propaganda. He promised that the NPP would this time not allow the NDC ‘to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians’ and retain power in the 2012 general elections. ‘We will not allow the NDC to use propaganda to retain power this time around,’ he charged.
He told the teeming crowd that Nana Addo is not corrupt and is the only person with the requisite knowledge and political experience to manage this country. According to Lawyer Atta Akyea, Ghanaians have now come to realized that the NDC misinformed them about the lifestyle of the astute politician.
‘Have you heard anybody saying Nana Addo is corrupt before? If we want Mr. Clean hands in this country, it is Nana Akufo-Addo,’ he said.
IMF controlling NDC
Mr. Akyea told the crowd the NDC is being controlled by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on how to manage the country. He said the message of the IMF to the NDC government is to cut down on spending, hence the hardship that the Ghanaians are experiencing.
‘Now the IMF is teaching the NDC how to govern this country. As a result there is no money to spend,’ he noted.
The event witnessed several messages from the youth wing of the party, made
up of the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser, Gideon Boako, Deputy Secretary of the NPP, Michael Ocquaye Junior, the Greater Accra representative of TESCON, Isaac Acheampong, the aspiring parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma, Ebenezer Nartey, Deputy National Women’s Organiser, Tina Mensah, the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Anthony Karbo, Lord Commey and Abu Jinapor.
Karbo told the crowd that the youth wing of the NPP will approach the 2012 general election on three fronts; Disclipline, Dedication and Determination. They urged the youth not to relent on their oars, but to campaign from door-to-door, until the NPP comes back to power.
He expressed the hope that the government and the security agencies will play a critical role in ensuring that the 2012 general election is free and fair.
