The Awutu-Efutu-Senya District Chief Executive, Adams Nuhu has indefinitely suspended the Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) in his area, James Courage Awuah, for alleged financial malpractices.

His position has temporarily been taken over by the Regional Coordinating Director of the District.Mr. Awuah is being accused of unduly extorting money from applicants who had applied for job under the Health Extension Workers (HEW) program of the NYEP in the district.

He is alleged to have taken GH50.00 each from the over seventy applicants who applied for employment under the NYEP last year.

But the Coordinator explained that the amount was to be used for medical examination under the instruction of Nana Oseibi Quansah, the Central Regional Coordinator of the NYEP. But, the later is reported to have denied ever issuing such a directive.

The matter is said to have infuriated the anger of the DCE who summoned all the executives under the Program to his office for questioning to unravel the truth.

The DCE, according to our source, issued a directive to Mr. Awuah to refund the monies to the beneficiaries to save him from any embarrassment but he wouldn’t listen.

“He has been queried several times on this particular matter but he felt he was a man on his own and so decided to do things he so wishes to do,” said the source who spoke to The Chronicle on condition of anonymity.

“At one point, he attached a list of names that suggest that he has paid all the beneficiaries but the Assembly realized that the signatories of the beneficiaries were forged,” the source added.

After so many unsuccessful attempts, the matter was reported to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) in the district to investigate the matter.

The BNI, according to inside sources, picked Mr. Awuah up for questioning on March 8, 2011 where he confirmed taking the money from the candidates but said he did so with the consent of the Delta Force Committee (DFC) in the district.

Surprisingly, the DCE is the Chairman of the DFC with the Directors of Agriculture and Health being members. None of these personalities per our investigations have knowledge about the actions of the NYEP Coordinator.

The DCE, Adams Nuhu in an interview with The Chronicle confirmed suspending his District NYEP Coordinator. According to him, he did so to save the district from any further embarrassment.

Copies of Mr. Awuah’s dismissal letter, the DCE noted has been dispatched to the Central Region Secretariat of the NYEP, the Headquarters of the NYEP in Accra as well as other relevant bodies who matter most on issues of the NYEP.

Mr. Awuah’s suspension is the second in a month following the dismissal of the  Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Coordinator of the NYEP, Andrews Kojo Dodoo for pocketing GH7,600.00 belonging to beneficiaries under the Program.

Stay tuned for more revelations of corrupt practices ongoing in the Central Regional under the NYEP Secretariat.
